ye!! very nice bichirs, ricky:headbang2

i still dont get the point what's the difference between koliba and kolonton, one of my friend imported some bichirs from guinea directly, but i really dont know who is who when i bought bichirs from him as the guinea exporter didnt label the bichirs.
i have looked at the bichirs that my friend imported very carefully and tried to distinguish, but in vain...:(
btw: i picked up a kolonton, and i think it's a koliba, but koliba was not in my friend's import list...so i'm even more confused:(

some one said kolonton is a river variety of ansorgii, but i dont believe it, what do you think? haha, varieties id drive me nuts...
i have no reason to doubt the koliba and koloton come from different collection locations, but i think they are essentially the same variety, or very very similar. i don't know whats the standard spelling of 'koloton', so i can't find this river (or place) on the map, but my guess is it should be quite close to the koliba river, making the two essentially the same variety imo.

And no. Koloton is definitely not a river variety of ansorgii. no! :D sure the patterns near the tail of the koloton look a bit ansorgii-like, but that means nothing. it's completely different from ansorgii.

So do you think they are different subspecies/varieties of an existing species, or a new as-yet undescribed species?
Since there's not much info, i always thought all three possibilites are possible. 1) variant of Guinea lapradei, 2) undescribed subspecies of P. bichir, 3) a new species. Although I always thought 1 & 2 are more likely.

Now there seems to be evidence to suggest that 1) is the correct one. And since it's also suggested that Guinea lapradei is a regional variant of the regular lapradei, that would mean the koliba/koloton are also variants of lapradei.

as for sp. Dabola, i still don't know.
