Best biological media

Yep typically you need to establish them first, It'll took months for all the set up to get a fairly good amount of plant back ups, CO2 stuff and lights, t5 or LED. More over for the synthetically products, I go for k1, and the rotation stuff, I really don't mind noise.
OK, so you're saying it takes months to establish sufficient plant filtration, requires a lot of light, and you have to be willing to put up with a noisy tank? Not exactly the perfect solution in every case or for everyone, is it? Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of plant filtration and use them as part of an overall solution in some tanks, but don't want noise, don't want to run a lot of lighting, don't want a waiting period each time I set up a new tank, etc.

I don't really feed derailer of thresad, aka trolls, but if you did read previous posts, it's about lo-tech self sufficient planted tank... that's where months and patience comes in...
FYI, I'm feeling good because of Daft Punk's song on my playlist right now so that's it.
And the way I said it, It's for me, I really don't mind noise, I'm not recommending it for everyone.

Duh.:screwy:

Remember patience is one of the key of this hobby. Most of the times bad things happens fast.

Pothos begin working to capture nitrogen within days if not the same day it's roots go into the water. They require very little light and can grow easily on ambient light or 2-3 60 watt incandescent bulbs. There is no noise.

Any person keeping a large tank should consider adding plants of this type somewhere in their cycle. The plants requiring high intense bulbs and special conditions are not always the best at handling bio load issues.

No, the original question was:
What is the best biological media (bought or DIY) in your experience? I use a multitude of different medias, here is a list of mine:
Bio-Balls
Ceramic rings and cylinders
Scrubbies
Coarse sponge
Bio-wheels
K1
Helix
Bio-home (four different types)
Lava rock
Pumice stone

What are your favorites and which is the best to use?
Nothing wrong with introducing the option of plant filtration, but there is also room to consider pros and cons of any option or to mention personal preferences as a consideration (such as preferring a quiet tank) without requiring that insults be the response.

As I said, I like the concept of plant filtration, but imo, and I have a right to my opinion, it's not perfect for everyone or for every tank. Personally, I like using plants, but prefer a hybrid of plants and other media.

Agree on that, particularly (imo) with tanks that are situated with sufficient ambient light without extra bulbs required. But, I don't consider plants as unquestionably the best filtration for everyone, when each method has its own advantages (or disadvantages), or I don't consider plants as a supplement to filtration as a must when other methods can be perfectly successful on their own. It's one of those things in fishkeeping where there is more than one viable approach and personal preference is perfectly valid for more than one method.

They fall on the same category, biological filtration.
This is the part where the OP and I seems to connect,

Oh okay, pothos are great but they themselves cannot keep a bio load of an aquarium in check. It would take a lot (covering most of the tank) of them to do that. But I see where you're going with that with the self sustained aquarium for sure, would be awesome to get something like that rolling!!!

The noise part is where I said I like k1, I just like it because it's self cleaning and because it's really noisy, well again IMO I don't mind it, and the establishment of the said self sufficient tank is here,

The OP talked things about the thread, well it means he and I do understand where those previous comments came from.

If I ever offend you in some way, I say sorry, I prefer not to be a "dick".

And lastly all filtration has pros and cons, even plants, they may go haywire example duckweed, oh those dreaded duckweed.
well that's it.

Here's a pic to compensate the derailment of the thread.
