I used to have danios as dithers but my pike managed to kill them all. Silver dollars are one of the best choices they're tough and its very hard for a cichlid to grip onto them

Giant danios are good, idk about around arows but good and cheap none the less. Rainbows are great too.

I added a school of 8 silver dollars to my 165g and they are one of my favorite species in the tank. They school so tightly all the time and never get picked in by my severums or choco cichlid. The only problem I have had is them jumping into the glass tops but they seem to have stopped lol

Filament barbs and denison (torpedo) barbs get big enough and are fast enough. They seem to work well.

You can do the smaller species of "tinfoil" if you can successfully ID them. There's the standard tinfoil that gets huge, and there's the redtail tinfoil that gets about 9ish inches. I keep a group of 6 redtail tinfoils in my 125, and they're great. They're tight schooling and it's awesome to see them avoid my big odo.

I like SD's, but it all depends on the SA/CA. Just because it can't be eaten doesn't mean it can't be brutally murdered however it does help. My old oscar at 11in killed my whole school of 5in SD's in one night & thats just an oscar.

Try out the SDs. If they work then switch to Red hooks. They get bigger and are beautiful but way more expensive. Trial it with cheaper SDs
