Armatus guys... I need your wisdom! Army + GATF

 • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Ok guys, we've all been preaching for a long time now that when mixing an army and any type of ATF, the ATF needs to be quite a bit larger than the ATF for the match to be a success. Max is now a foot long. I'm wondering if he's big enough that I can safely get away with the army not catching up or taking a very long time to catch up. I figure I'll get an armatus about 5" and have to have him in a growout for a little while, I have a growout running and I'm fine with that. I understand that armies slow down quite a bit after a foot in length, but the specific questions that I have are as follows:

Is Max large enough that he will be able to hold a size parity or a size advantage with the armatus, or will the armatus quickly pass him up? In the next year, Max will at absolute most be 18" and likely significantly less. Will the army grow fast enough after hitting a foot to outpace that 6" a year figure of the GATF?

If Max doesn't have enough of a size advantage, what do you armatus guys feel would be the ideal size to wait for for Max to be able to maintain size parity or an advantage?

Armatus has always been on my to do list, I just want to do it right. :)

Havent tried i tiger fish but my army has outgrown my scomb so far no problems at all.

I say go for it and what it close if i were u though i would be more scared max would kill the little army with those teeth LOL.

How big are your tanks?????

;)

Got 13 wich one and why?

13? :WHOA:

My question was aimed to Rob, a lil attempt to give him a hard time ;)

Why? Cause very few here have tanks big enough for many of the monsters commonly kept by hobbyists in this forum. Many have the desire to have tanks big enough "some" day. I'd only suggest that given the growth rate of Armatus, and how poorly they handle being transferred it might be a wise idea to have the tank before the fish.

:)

Get a lei! They are an amazing fish and have no temper whatsoever. It would be an awesome combo. I had my lei and gatf combo and it worked great. The leis grow quick tho. Mine hit 12" within 5 months. But a beautiful fish to fill that top unused portion of the tank. Completly different personallity from the jars even though they r both australian. Much better looking as well. Just much more pricy.

510 & 150 and I have a shot at a 360 that I'm pretty sure will be successful. Only the 150 is running right now because I'm moving in December. I don't see a point in setting up the 510 with 4000 pounds of water just to take it down a few months later.

I really want a lei. I'm actively watching for one!

YEA 13 my army is doing good in the community but he is still young. Only fish he ever bother was a small L155 other than that no aggression towards other fish, i think chicx could pull it off if anybody could. Also have moved my army twice with no problems 2 more moves until his final home.

I had no idea you picked up a 510...... Congrats!!!

I definitely agree, no point in wasting the time, heck I couldn't even plum that sucker the way I wanted it in a couple months... lol. I still haven't gotten my big tank right and I've been working on it since last winter. :(
