who else overstocks thier tank??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I agree way to over crowded. I don't know if you still have that dovii in there. Your Jag, Mayan, and Dempsey will rule the tank. I say Dempsey because they are truly unpredictable. Your Convict and firemouth will most likely be picked off. Convict lasting longer. At the end when I think of these fish in full size and mature. I see you only having a Jag or Mayan. Maybe even both.

their cool peoples. my fish love eachother. my jag givs the mayan playful kisses on the mouth and I catch them cuddling at night but wen I turn the light on they scatter in shame. lets just hope the mayan is a female or imma hav to start another thread that reads "homosexuality among cichlids". lolllllll

sorry to burst a bubble...but fish do not kiss. Cichlid's going mouth to mouth in a "kissing" fashion is often a sign of aggression.

I hate when people say "they're already FIVE inches and they're not even aggressive" as if five inches is big lol. Eventually you will find dead fish in that tank and that knowledge alone should let you know that you need to rethink your stock or tank size. 125 gallons is not a big tank. Ugh. If you gonna treat fish as expendable then get into another hobby.

this is a bit snobby don't you think?

125g is a big tank by any realistic measure within the hobby. Not everyone has 5 tanks in their home/facility, nor do they want to. 125g is HUGE by an AVERAGE hobbyist's standards.

I agree with your premise that 5" isn't big for the fish we're discussing, but its a bit foolish in my opinion to claim 125g to be "not a big tank"

+1.

This is all a matter of opinion I think. To me a 125 gallon us not a "huge" tank but it all maters about the footprint. To me standard 125 gallon tanks are too skinny.

Agreed, matter of opinion.
To me a 125 is a medium sized tank for what I like to keep. It's a good staring point for either 1-2 large fish or few medium ones. Not truly a big tank

Sorry I didn't mean to come off as snobby at all. My biggest tank is a 75 haha. Let me rephrase. He must think his tank is big given his current stock. Which it isn't, again, given his current stock.

Hah its not kissing. Sign of aggression. If you think they are playing maybe they are. But "if" your fish all last to around 6-9 inches. You are going to have serious problems. Jaguar and Mayan being the mains. Might want to reconsider stocking.
