I gotta say, u probably could get one as decent as this larger for half the price

If you can find one, I will buy it. Heck, in my country, nothing would come close to the price of what I made it for. I might be a bit high on my estimate, who knows. Half the price? I think not. I used to work at home depot and know most of the items I needed prices off the top of my head before buying them. I know it's nice to save money, and I do do that, but refuse to spare any expense.

it doesn't look different than a standard used one tho, still good job

In what way are you expecting it to look different? Its a very funtional shaped cage, a rectangle.

Have you ever priced out what very large reptile cages can cost? then add a few hundred more to have it shipped.
It took me years of looking to find used 8 footers in my area, that were in decent cond and I still payed a good buck for them.

not sure about ur situation in new jersey but in England its alright, but I think this build could be simplified.

The whole point of what I am getting at is that cages these days are too simple. They are all cookie cutter and very few snakes habits are the same. I don't know anyone in there right mine who would not want this cage over a pvc unit. Unless they are a "breeder" and don't care about the animals natural habits. The snake this cage houses is always on the branches. A thread on that is to come shortly.

You do nice work. few tips, first your cost is WAY too high but thats been addressed. Next your front screw holes. Fill them in, it will look much nicer. And i would not have used linoleum. I would have definetly tiled. Snake guy suggested, and i second it, put down some silicone.

I did not tile the cage for several reasons. First and most importantly it would have made the cage heavier, secondly, grout gets dirty quick and another important reason is that it would easily crack over time. Floors are screwed down a lot so that they do not move in a house. All this is is a sheet of 5/8 plywood that has some flex, I don't see tile ever working unless the cage is built into a wall and will never move.

How do I fill in the screw holes? With what?

As for cost, it is what it is, I do not know how to bring it down, this is just the way I do things.
