I'd happily put a 4" snakehead with him. That would be a direct comparison to what we're talking about here.

a snakehead will own a goliath tho.especially when breeding, the parent will probably dismember the tigerfish before it can do anything. If u were to place a snakehead and a goliath in the tank, the snakehead will probably go for the goliath first, not giving it a chance to bite. U said nothing bout the electric eel, my second candidate, who probably will survive a tigerfish bite, as its vital organs are located in the upper half of the body

Oooof. Man you are in a losing battle trying to say snakeheads are ultimo. Members on here have posted many times that even Malabracius Wolf fish have killed giant snakeheads larger then themselves. Hell i think my ery ery would take down an equal sized snakehead. Its a beast.

And after Hoplias Wolf fish, there are ATF. The atfs if im not mistaken are known to fly out of nowhere, take a chunk, circle back and keep going like that until the fish is gone. Adult specimens, i would put my money on an Aimara wolf fish over Giant Snakehead in a fight against ATF. One strike from an GATF would cut a giant snakehead in half

wait so if an average tigerfish size is 4-5 foot, then by that comparison ur saying snkaheads get to 2 feet long

I'd back an aimara over anything at a size parity, EVEN a goliath. The goliath would have to be a large adult female to win IMO- a 120 pound fish. If an aimara got as big as a goliath, they'd be the winner in my book hands down.

Yeah, toman can get close to 2' fairly regularly and around 10 pounds.

we are talking MAX SIZES tho, a foot long snakehead will do a foot long tigerfish, however never heard of a clash between adult specimens, and I would believe a snakehead might strike first, then it wont give the gatf a chance to respond, and I think similar sized wolfs could do similar sized snakeheads, however at adult size my moneys on snakehead.but I think a wolf would have a fair chance against goliaths. one thing that will menace these would be an electric eel

dude, most aquarists get these at three feet in two or three years.

Proof?

EDIT- and I mean DEFINITIVE proof of a 3' snakehead in a tank. I can't even find proof of one convincingly over 2', let alone 3. Even the 38 pound world record was only three and a half feet long. I find it HIGHLY unlikely that anyone has a 3' snakehead in a tank.

One article says 2" a month and the other said 1" a month up to a potential total of 3'. That potential total is in line with what I say about their maximum size as well.

However, any aquarist knows that a fish will slow down significantly in growth once it reaches sexual maturity.

The main problem I have with your posts is that they don't prove anything. Anyone can post an answer to Yahoo Answers, even if they don't know what they're talking about. More importantly, neither article you linked to has anything even vaguely resembling a proper citation to a scientific journal. Without citations to a peer reviewed journal, those articles are just opinion pieces.

Besides, definitive proof isn't a hackneyed article, it's something like this, a goliath well over 3' in a home aquarium:
