Unhealthy habits?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
you look very healthy.. keep up the good efforts.. we are all just jealous... it takes alot of dicipline to maintain a healthy life style in todays standards of fast living..

I try my best, sometimes it gets to me. I sure do miss eating all the fried food, but they just do a number on my stomach. I have IBS, but ever since I started taking ProB's, it's like I never had IBS, but it reminds me every now and then. I live so much better now, I wish I would have known about this sooner.

I'd rather be on my deathbed when I'm 90 dying on natural causes than be 50 with diabetes, heart problems, overweight, high cholesterol, blood pressure, etc. and able to go out at an old age and live my life. Getting drunk is not on my list of things to do, it's not that important whatsoever. I never really understood why so many people do it, as well as smoking etc. but hey, we can do pretty much whatever we want to do, its our bodies :)

I'd rather spend $5000 a year on fish, tanks, etc. than $5000 a year on meds. :)

what brand of ProBs do you take?
I have an adult daughter with digestive problems & I'd like to see if that'd help her.

Good points B....I want to look into some of the things that you mentioned in your posts and for clarity,I was joking in my post about you being on the wrong thread.

you are absolutely right.. no one knows our fate in the end... but while your alive and kicking theres nothing wrong with feeling good or at least better........ i take probiotics too.. i have diverticulitis.. i take ultimate Flora.. which one do you take...i am headed for surgery soon.. i have about had about 4 recent attacks in the past year since i have been diagnosed.. if i had only known the information i know now and i might not be in this situation.....

I take VSL#3

http://www.vsl3.com/

I looked at Ultima Flora, one box stated its items may come in contact with milk products so I didn't chance it. I was first taking Philips Colon Care ProB, it was 1.5 Billion CFU and it did very well. My GF is Mexican so I ate Habanero sauce, Jalapenos, etc. and I made it out alive without spending hours in the bathroom.

VSL is $52 for 112CFU, recommended is 2 caps a day which makes it 225 billion CFU, I take 1 to 4 a day depending on what I'm going to eat. They have one that is 900 billion CFU but you need a doctors order, those are for severe problems which I don't have. They have awesome shipping, it came in a styro box with 2 cold packs and it was $7.50. I keep it in the fridge as well. I read up and if you eat a lot of fried food, these two don't mix, I tested it out with a fried egg roll, you can imagine how that went, never again.

I have never been actually diagnosed for IBS, I diagnosed myself basically. I wrote down everything I ate for almost a year, including symptoms. There is no cure but the Dr. can give you meds but I didn't want to take meds for obvious reasons.

I'm no Dr. but I can almost guarantee it will help her in some way. ProB's also help with your immune system amongst other things.

well, thanks for the info. my daughter doesn't have a diagnosis & her symptoms aren't so clear-cut. finally just made a Dr appt.
I've been telling her for years that something is wrong. loses weight no matter what she eats & has to be careful. All I know is, she doesn't assimilate food normally. now she's so skinny it's scary.
:-/
can't hurt to try this stuff, long as it's dairy free.

This is dairy free, but not all are, if you don't use VSL, make sure to read the boxes front back, top to bottom, etc. Ultima Flora on one box states this product is made where it may come in contact with dairy items, the same Ultima Flora but different strength doesn't state anything about dairy, so I assumed it comes in contact with dairy.

ProB's also help you digest food, such as take in as much nutrients, vitamins, etc., as possible. It helps with Leaky Gut Syndrome as well. This stuff starts working within 30 minutes for a lot of fold, myself included. As of right now I have been on them for 2 months now.

I haven't checked for this at Kroger's, Wal-Mart but I heard it's there and not sure if all VSL is behind counter, but I do know the 900 billion CFU is a Dr. order to obtain. I got mine straight from VSL website.

All ProB's are not the same, some will work better than others, it all depends on what strains of bacteria you need the most and how many. Some have 3 strains of bacteria, some have 20. You may ask your Dr. what he may suggest or you can experiment yourself. If you still have problems after a few weeks to a month on one ProB, it's time to change and so on. I got lucky with Philips and lucky again with VSL.

You may experience bloating but this is typical for a the first week or so.

K. Thanks.
I won't tell her I read about it on a fish site ;-)

I drink gallons of syrupy sweet tea and/or soda. I also tend to enjoy mayonnaise more than I should. I PT a lot so those things really aren't a big deal. I'm sure if I stopped exercising I'd balloon up pretty bad.

The thing that really gets me is lack of sleep. Its not unusual for me to be up for 48 hours, and I've made three day stretches before. When I do crash, I'm normally only down for about an hour. Its rare that I get to sleep well.
