Amen to that. At the end of the day anyone with any money to spend on an aquarium regardless of size is obviously doing better than a big chunk of the population, and no matter how big or hi-tech or expensive your build seems there are always people who take it that step further...

Compare the cost of a build like this spread out over the life of the tank to a season of amateur motorsport (or any petrol-powered hobby), or a ski/snowboard kit and lift-passes and all the associated costs, or a good set of golf clubs and a couple of years membership at a good club, etc etc. It may be at the upper end in terms of cost for an aquarium, but even at this level it isn't an exceptionally expensive hobby in the greater scheme of things IMO.

MANY people where I live spend $30-50K on boats to ride out to in the Gulf of Mexico and catch Snapper and Ling. Or spend $4K a year to lease a place to hunt ducks. Or a membership at a nice golf course. Or buy a condo in Florida. People up North LOVE their snow mobiles. Lots of guys buy a classic car. A Harley costs $20K or $30K. See lots of those out and about. It's pretty easy to buy $10K worth of guns. Fish tanks aren't that bad.

He said in another thread it is on the back burner because of another project.

Yeah, it's called work. Just no free time lately or what little I do get I'm dog tired. The tank is getting a little work done here and there still. Getting close now. the cabinets are done now, need to post up some pics.

Pigs have been tearing my yard to pieces over the last month too, so weekends are spent cleaning up their mess of bulldozing my lawn to shreds and screwing with other landscape projects I need to finish before summer is completely gone.

Caught one of the bastards last week. 200+lbs of pissed off pig.

Not sure what sort of pig that is, but the wild pork we get here is pretty tasty! ;)

Just wild pig. He will end up on someone's dinner plate. Trappers come and trap them for free cause they have buyers for the meat. They were out there again last night. Made another couple hours of clean up work for me today. Grrrr. Between me and the neighbors we've trapped over a dozen in the last month.
