Hi everyone. I'm wondering if i could feed my NNG bloodworms, pellets, or krill/shrimp. I just don't want to go through all the trouble to keep feeder fish. If you guys want to know my tank info, check my other thread (I only have 1 other). Thanks for the answers!:D

You can, it's whether it will eat them or not. Theres a good chance it will respond to the movement, but it could go the other way. Ghost/river shrimp are a good alternative if you don't want feeder fish.

Try a bunch of different things, I found my red hi fin who supposedly was going to be hard to break off live readily took freeze dried brine shrimp.

Small nightcrawler worms (idk how big NNG mouths get) would be a great live alternative to feeder fish too!

I have never seen one take anything other than live fish - some people have speculated, but not confirmed otherwise.

The reason why I'm asking this is because of a problem. My tank will have a bunch of carnivorous fish that will get to the fish before the NNG will. I also don't want to buy anything live to feed. Are they expensive to keep? If i have to, I'll just get feeders. Ghost shrimp are 25 cents each at where i get fish, and the fire eel will just eat them all. NOTE: This is just a stocking question. This is in relation with my previous thread

@BuffaloPolypteridae i think the nightcrawler idea is perfect! are they expensive food? i really don't want to spend too much on food. I also think the silver arowana will get to that faster too. Idk how big their mouths are, but they grow to about 1' long.

@Ian21777 can i starve them and then try to feed them? Idk if that works. It seems kind of cruel to me.

I have a florida/spotted gar that didnt eat for 2 months- his choice not mine. Then one day he started eating frozen mussel. Hes none the worse for wear for doing so.

It won't let me edit for some reason... Exhaust all options b4 you starve it. It could well like a particular food. Crickets, appropriately sized, could be worth a shot. Bloodworm is definitely worth a try.

Mine loves freeze dried krill. I lucked out, picked it up at the LFS after someone got rid of it. Bought feeders expecting them to be needed be he went straight for the krill. Feeders were gone the next day but I guess that was a midnight snack

@ Ian21777 ok. that seems reasonable.

@RangerBlue381 wow. so i think i'll try krill. that seems to work. I think they're less expensive too

I might drop bloodworms because they are so expensive... I think I'll give krill a try :)
