Hello friends.
This week I receive my Pleco Real, I'll put in my 125 G, with American cichlids, I have a lot of Mopani wood in that tank, I've read in the forum vegetable food you give them, one of the problems I see in their maintenance in this particular case is, that I have some fish on which they feed at night (polyp, and some semi-nocturnal cichlid) if you do not let the Pleco feed.

L191 likes veggies and driftwood. Some say that Mopani wood is a little too hard for them, some say it's no problem. Just watch the filter pads and substrate and see if you see little dark wood shavings, if you don't see any after couple weeks, that means indeed it's a little too hard for them. Once used to the enviroment, L191 should be no problem eating in the day time, but they still prefer eating after lights out. They prefer eating all day long, instead of just 1 or 2 meals a day.

If Mopani is too hard for them, give them malaysian driftwood or manzanita driftwood. Give them harder veggies like potatos and squash/pumpkins and those should last couple days at least. Since main source of food for L191 would be driftwood and the veggies, they really are not in competition with the other fish you have.
 
The thing to watch out for if you're feeding the polys meaty foods at night is the royal going for them too. Too much protein isn't good for them. I feed mine a mix of nls mega fish, hikari wafers and veges, plus wood of course.

I have really only one polyp, and not very big, about 5 inches. but some of the cichlids that I have even seek food by smell at night.
Hikari polyp soil food give the background for your recommendation.
Here in Spain is difficult to find NLS. Even Thailand Hikari to buy online.

Since no one else thanked you, I figured I would. Thanks, you obviously put a good effort and some valuable info. into your post. Honestly there's still a lot of people who don't even know these beasties need wood and you've gone and even helped narrow what kind of woods are best. It's too bad your post seems to have been passed over, probably due to your post count which is a sad reason for someone not to appreciate your post.

Thank you! I've asked plenty of questions before and valued everyone's responses. Perhaps I also forgot to thank some of you before as well >.<!!
 
Will the Panaque not suck the slime off the polys?! if they dont that would be amazing, ive been looking for a plec that for sure wouldnt suck the slime off my bichirs. sorry to hijack but it seems like you got your info lol
