My wife saw this painting in a catalog for $250, so I figured instead of spending that I would try to recreate it. I haven't painted in a long time, like 15 years, so I think it came out pretty decent. The picture in the catalog was very small so it was hard to go by.

The painting was titled 'big tuna', but it doesn't look like a tuna to me. What type of fish is it?

Small picture from the catalog:

$250!? That's ridiculous! Who would actually buy that for that much?

Original oil paintings are usually pretty expensive. It was from a catalog so they were obviously mass produced oil paintings. I did mine in acrylic though.

Looks like a "small tuna" lol jk I agree with Wahoo. Btw you did an awesome job, looks great!

Thanks, I appreciate the compliment.

Not sure about the wahoo though. Some parts are right, but others not. I was wondering if it's just a made up fish with aspects of several different kinds melded into one...

Nice job on the recreation, as far as the ID, the original was probably painted with some "artistic license".

That's a king mackerel, that torpedo shape with the fins sticking out make it an obvious outline of a king mackerel.
