Glass banging purple wolf :(

IF the Aro gets too big he can do the same thing many of the people in this section of the forum do and sell it to someone like me that's within driving distance and has plenty of room. That being said you guys can focus on his questions about the wolf instead of jumping him about a fish that needs MUCH less of a tank then most of the commonly kept fish in this forum.

also try visiting the tank less often or moving in front of it often. a big thumping thing in front of tha tank is bound to make the fish nervous, maybe try to only visit the tank during feeding time and if you want to watch the tank just sit down in front of it. Might make the wolf less skittish

also is the 120 a growout? It's not big enough for an adult arowana of any species

yeah 120 for a large aro is about what i can do for now. ive seen much smaller tanks for much much large aros and yeah ive started only going to the tank once in a while to feed or either just sit infront of it. sad cause everything i sit infront of the tank i always hope my wolfy comes out and greets me.

x2 looks a bit bright...Is the tank in a high traffic area? Subdue the lighting and give him a little more time to get adjusted.

actaully its not pretty peaceful i got out side once in a while only to let the dogs out but other then that its pretty calm around the house. ill probably add a dark blue or black back ground and see what happens.

i will for sure look you up when i do decide to sell my black aro, but for right now he is doing great in the tank and i do see him growing pretty quickly. BTW thanks!

with most predatory fish especially from the amazon they like darker water try adding some indian almond leaves witch will give him more cover to come out and will tint your water to make it feel more natural to him, it also will drops your ph witch is a plus in my eyes. hope that helps

I use to do what they called candy cane the bulbs. If they are a t8 type bulb you can wrap a thin few layers of beige colored masking tape around the bulb. It will give it a tinted look in the water.

Panty hose and peat moss.

If you're trying to cut the light this way will at least get you closer to their natural water (lower PH and releases natural tannins that are supposed to have healing properties.)

A bunch of dithers may get him used to movement. Shelter it and it may never get used to movement.

May also be another fish that gets courage in numbers? Maybe you need a few more to feel comfy? A little competition for food usually yields better growth rates. My Wolf eats much better now that there's a much larger wolf in with it......

I suggest adding a canopy of floating plants this seems to work very well with my wolves.
x2 duck weed is cheap it grows very fast it floats and it help with water quality only set back is if you add it to your tank its hard to get rid of when not wanted anymore.

yeah i tried another wolf...it didnt go too well..my purple actually went on attack mode. even after i took him out re-did the whole tank to make him lose his sense of home.
the smaller red wolf was abushed, abused so i had to take him out.. he is now in a 20 gallon tank.

i did redo my tank set up i will post up pictures soon.

i put up a blue backing, dimmed the lights, added more plants. purple wolfy does come out more often now, but will still go nutz..he ...is.. slowing getting use to having some back ground now.

I have a pretty good idea how to help you, the way that red wolves hunt is in dense vegetation, I see that your tank doesn't have many plants. I suggest adding floating plants, and a few more bottom plants, he will be hiding in them a lot but that's my reds comfort zone, my marine land 3 foot bamboo plant.

Recent pic of him, his name is bloody face for a reason... (he has a recent wound from jumping :/)

Ahhh I see someone beat me to the punch on the floating plant idea! Derp. A really good one to use is the marine land 3 foot bamboo, I have mine setup sunk in the sand coming all the way up on the surface for quite a bit.
