Tapping collective wisdom: Best aquarium Heaters

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Titanium (can't break) Finex heaters run through a controller.

I was going to go that route both for the convenience & fact my zippier fish couldn't crack the heater.

The reviews I found were not great. What's your experience with them?

I've had two finnex titanium heaters and both didn't last a year. One would not turn on anymore and the other I found my tank at 93 degrees. (Thank goodness my fish made it through) I finally got smart and went with two Eheim Jagers. Both 300 watt and I only use one. This is the most accurate heater I have used yet. Very happy with it and cheaper than the titanium. Tank is a 180.

I'm sure the digital controllers are better, but my bone stock Eheim Jaeger 300w keeps my 150gal within one degree F.

I was on the fence about buying a seperate digital controller- but made the decision to buy & be better safe than sorry, but the jeagers have such a tremendous rep I'm back on the fence. ;-)

Get the best of both worlds...Eheim heaters on a Ranco ETC Temperature Controller (Rebranded by Jehmco and prewired/ready to use here: http://www.jehmco.com/html/temperature_controller.html).

Those aquarium temp controllers are a joke; cheap pieces of junk. The Ranco's are used for all sorts of industrial applications; they have a solid track record (read, reliable).

Thanks!

For some (likely stupid) reason I always forget Jehmco on the small stuff. In spite of the fact that I own about 1/2 a dozen of their products; including the words best air pump ;-)

I have a jager 250w and no issues for 10 months. I just acquired the Fluval e300, I am currently giving the fluval a run. Only a week in, but I really like it. It has a big screen with actual temperature displayed. If the tank is over what you have set, then the temperature reading blinks red, too low and it blinks blue. The colors help you pay attention. I should mention that it's in a 75 gallon, with a clumsy destructive Oscar. I will definitely post any updates if this changes. uploadfromtaptalk1380613749728.jpguploadfromtaptalk1380613773936.jpg
