So this guy was a total impulse at the end of the MFK convention from Rt. 4, ended up acclimating him at like 4 AM when I got home last sunday.

He's in my swamp with most of my other stuff, and seems to be doing great so far. He's got a few different hangouts where he likes to bury himself, but this was recorded in his main spot, where he's hanging out right now as I type.

Sorry it's not the most exciting video but hey, they are serious ambush predators. It just looks like there's an oddly shaped rock with a crack in it under the dirt.

I dropped a couple of algae wafers near him to lure the feeder fish in for the shot. Strike happens about 30 secs in.

Awesome little Chaca Chaca you've got there, makes me miss mine. Also good idea using the wafers to lure in the feeders. Only thing I'd suggest(if possible) try a sand or smoother substrate, as if he does ingest the rocks completely(not sure if he eventually spit it out) it could seriously tear up his digestive tract on it's way out.

Thanks! Yeah there's softer substrate under the pebbles but there's no way to change it up at this point. He seems OK with it, and I've seen him spit out rocks after eating them a bunch.

Awesome man! I told you that thing would be perfect!

Yeah it totally is, thanks!

Very nice pickup - perfect fit for your setup!

As Jay said at the con, it's like I've got a hidden ambush predator theme going on in there. And the turtle is hilariously unaware of any of it. Thinks the chaca is a rock (understandably) and that the erpetons are sticks (ditto).

No problem, since he's spitting them up I think your right he should be cool. I also didn't realize you had erpetons in your tank or a turtle, sounds like an awesome set up. Can I ask what kind of turt. you got in there with those guys?

A reimanni snakeneck. I should note that I wouldn't expect this to work out for everybody. My turtle was one of two the vendor had from the same clutch, and even though I got mine at a very small size, the other one had already gained 1.5'' on it due to being the more aggressive eater. They had to separate them so mine would get a chance to eat. Ultimately, my reimanni gets really excited about food (every time I come home she does a crazy turtle voo-doo dance) but is an incredibly poor hunter, so I think that helps.
