Any one keep an L14 Sunshine Pleco Successfully with Rays long term?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I saw some nice 10 inch L14's and was thinking abut getting a pair... But I wanted to know if they are ray safe? I know any pleco can become a slime sucker, but i am interested to hear of any specific experience keeping the 2 together. Good or Bad.

Thanks

If you have to ask then you know its a risk

If you let your kids play by the road they may not get run down but it's better to keep them away from the road just in case

I've kept sunshines before and I honestly think it'll depend on the size of your tank and the individual personalities of the plecos. If there's enough room for everyone to keep to themselves I think it would be fine..

I had a 10" one for about 6 months. He never bothered the rays or vice versa. It ended up dying. I think it was from starvation as the rays out competed it for food. I had a big piece of driftwood and fed algae wafers, but it was only interested in the shrimp and smelts.

That's because that species of Pleco is a meat eater

I was informed it was an omnivore eating everything including drift wood. http://www.aqua-fish.net/show.php?h=sunshinepleco. I fed a variety of foods. He hid alot so I didn't see him much. He was in with some large rays so I'm guessing they outcompeted him for the food or hassled him to give up what he had. Was disappointing as they are beautiful plecos.

Plecos don't eat wood. They eat the organisms on the wood. Feed them small pellets like tetra color bites. They can swallow them with out the big rays hassling them over it. I believe the species you had primarily feeds on meaty foods and may occasionally eat greens. Panaque are the ones that apparently eat wood but its a myth. They graze on what Evers growing on the wood and also eating left over ray foods.
