100 percent dempsey! The taller body is most likely due to some stunting as he was a fish store trade in and probably had a tough life, the color on him is phenomenal and it is true in my opinion older dempseys show more blue then young bucks.
Need opinions. Hybrid or not?

im not much for dempseys but yours has my attention make sure you seperate when you get some blues and by the way there is no texas in that guy here are some texas x dempsey

I got this guy last summer at my LFS. He was a drop off. One of those impulse buys where you just see the fish and have to have it. That said, I have no idea of his background. A few people have asked me if he is a texas/dempsey hybrid. Honestly I'm not sure so that is why I'm here! What do you guys think? Texas/dempsey hybrid, pure dempsey or some other kind of hybrid? He's about 9" and really a very cool fish.
The JD in question is 100% JD and 100% FEMALE. In the 3rd picture the Dempsey on the left is female and the one on the right is a male.

Big boy is most definitely NOT a female. The smaller JD is a female and his mate.

Have you vented them or seen them dropping eggs and sperm? I ask because I've never seen a male with a beard much less have splotchy face spangles. Either way they are a mated pair so that's awesome. Gotta have some beautiful offspring.

Yes. I've vented them both. Female has spawned with other males. Big boy is a boy. Lol case closed.
