About to buy lighting...

I'm looking into getting some medium lighting as well. I had several guys over at planted tank all tell me to go with this light.

That's right with the Beamswork EVO on price point, any thoughts on the Finnex vs EVO?

Edit: I've seen PAR ratings of around 60-65 at 18" for each, so in light output they look really similar... Build quality difference?

I was using a quad t5ho on my 40b and was not happy with algae growth. I recently replaced that with one 36" current satalite plus led fixture. I love the look and that it is dimmable. Note that I do use co2.

Well after reading some reviews and such, just pulled the trigger on the Finnex Ray2 36"

Now down to substrate (chosen but not purchased),

Decoration (finalizing somewhat, lol.),

Filtration (still deciding which route to start with).

Another piece fits into place!

for a planted tank i would personally get T5's. they makes the tank nicer especially with geismen bulbs white/pink combo. and for fish only i would go with leds.

Not necessarily. If you've never tried led lighting for plants you can't really say. The light is 7,000k so its going to look good imo.

And it's beginning... Just got my Finnex Ray2 today, build quality looks great, no flex like my marineland fixture has (Finnex has solid aluminum housing, marineland has plastic), and seems plenty bright at the moment.

Mine looks pretty bright with nothing in the tank, lol.
About to post a setup/build thread, as 45 lbs of Flourite Black Sand and 5 lbs of white gravel showed up today, along with a cheap sponge filter.
Even though I'm gonna do the dry-start planting, I want to be able to use it as an emergency quarantine tank if needed.
