Hi all,

A friend picked up a 150 gallon tall tank with the following

eshopps wet dry filter
WD-200CS 30" x 12" x 16" H Dual 1,000 gph 150-200 gallons

eshopps overflow, assuming its the 1200 as that would make sense, but it came with the filter.
PF-1200 10" x 3" x 10" H Up to 200 gallons Dual hose 1,000 gph

Danner Mag drive pump
9.5 950gph 12.85 ft head roughly 5 feet below water level

We got everything together and have run into a few problems.

1. Even if i start the siphon on each U tube with an air hose and get it going without any air in it, eventually it builds up to a fairly large bubble.

2. We have a very small leak in one of the bulkheads on the overflow box at the gasket. As he is picking up longer hoses and we have to tear it down to install the longer hoses i am hoping to conquer this with a simple rebuild.

3. NOISE. The overflow box in the tank seems to drain to the point where it is noisy and allowing air into the utubes and the noise from the standpipes in the rear overflow is pretty loud..I have read various noise threads about overflow boxes and they suggest some sort of foam insert in the standpipe but it did not come with something like that.

So, First, do we have any equipment incompatability? Is there something i need to equalize in the flow of one or the other to make things match?

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.

So, after posting on 3 different forums with no bites, i think i have found a possible failure point. The return that came with the 1000gph sump/overflow uses a 5/8 inch tubing for the return. The paperwork with the 950 gph pump states it recommends 1.5 inch return even though its output is a 3/4 inch thread. Could most of these problems be caused by low flow? Should i maybe try plumbing it with 1/5" pvc?

I would agree that excessive noise would be caused by not enough pump flow, 1.5" piping will give you more flow just use a true union ball valve imo to be able to adjust it if it's to high
