That's a chilling thought....

I breed all my own feeders. Not exactly to be eaten but my piranhas pick of a few when they get bored.

I see what you mean and I agree, I hate it when hunters use that argument, no animal has a firearm. I see what you mean and I completely understand.

to much protein will kill fish that are not strict carnivores, shrimp high protein. I look at it like dogs and cats. dogs omnivores, they need plant matter, vegies with lower protein, cats are strict carnivores, need meat protein, feed your cat dog food and will get sick, urinary tract infection being the first and most usual health issue with feeding them dog food. good cichlid pellets satisfy both needs for an Oscar (dog) while carny sticks and the such satisfy for say a Jag (cat).

The fish you mentioned aren't by nature overly predatory. The prey drive between a jag and a betta is way different.

Much different. My jag gets no live feeders but that never stops it from occasionally stalking and consuming a 4-5" mbuna....they are what they are.

And aggression amongst larger fish is mostly attributed to lack of "territory" or proper space in the aquaria, not because of the prescence of what we might consider food. My fish act no differently eating live vs pellets once it hits the water. Its a frenzy either way.

Most tank mates are considered possible food as well. I've witnessed eels consume large lionfish I've attempted to house together with no "feeders" ever used.

Instinct is instinct....

If feeders are bred for only one purpose (to be eaten by other fish) what is so wrong about that. It's like how we (as humans) breed cows, pigs, and other animals to become food. I think it is ok to use live food.

I feel that there is nothing wrong with feeding live food. I actually feed my Dovii nothing but live foods and algae wafers. I mean it is a dog eat dog kinda world tho some might have the wool pulled over there eyes. I have actually found that keeping feeders in the tank makes my Dovii less agressive.

If you get your jollies from watching a live animal being torn to sheds then, yes it wrong.

But if all your fish will eat is live or you want to give our fish a little chase then I don't see the problem. I personally have never fed live.

when your 12 and your young and fast you can get it done.

Betta you say? They are feeders from where I come from. If you don't have experience.. Try less big talk? No offense but we are talking about experience here. And you're talking about what you read from others.
You say feeding for entertainment is wrong, but you fed things that aren't supposed to be in a bettas diet. As you posted, seeing them getting killed. It's so much different from getting eaten whole than to be attacked slowly bleed out then die. Wouldn't it be contradicting what you said? Sorry if I sounded offensive.. It's just my thinking.. If you don't know anything then just keep quiet
