Long story short, some violent drunk tried to attack me last night and I hit him a couple times. After, I noticed the pinky of my right hand was bent at the knuckle closest to the nail. I immediately put ice on it. It is not really painful and I don't see bruising. It is a little swollen and red on top, but that is it. I can move it a little bit but can't bend it and the finger rests in the bent position. Since it was late I decided to put a home made splint on it and went to bed. After looking at pics online and reading about it, I believe the finger is dislocated rather than broken. I feel that if I go to the ER they will just put a splint on it. So I figure I could do that myself. But I am just a little worried about it not healing correctly and I don't want permanent damage to the finger. As it is I feel slightly disabled since I can't use this hand normally.

Yeah. Especially since it takes a month to heal. That is what it says online. So I'd have to wear a splint for that long. So just on that fact I'd want it all done correctly.

Good choice...tell us more about how you dispatched the drunkard.

I had the same scenario before, but I just snapped it back into place and put a splint on it. It healed up fine and looks like nothing happened but I don't recommend it. Go to the doctor because I could have damaged some very sensitive nerves, arteries or veins, but luckily I didn't. Btw, snapping it back on my own was extremely painful so I don't recommend it.

As a person with multiple corrective surgeries in both hands including permanent hardware, go to the dr. Chonic joint pain is one of the worst things to be cursed with...

Can you move it? Wiggle?

If its broken, no reasin to go to dr. dislocated, go! It will get set then splinted

have a doctor do it if it's a break, DO NOT try and heal on your own... I have a crooked finger for life attempting to heal a break on my own when I was young.

It hurts when it's cold and because of it I can't touch type. I am the fastest "hunter and pecker" you will ever see type though lol...

I had a cousin who's finger dislocated during a basketball game. He popped it back in and continued playing. As far as I know his finger's fine to this day

But you need to see a Dr

I would go to the dr.....oh yea next time try punching with your hands balled up instead of scratching lol  jk
