Okay it came with a marineland c-360 canister and there seems to be a tiny leak coming out of one of the handles, the gasket feels rough, what do you guys think it could be?

It could work, but thats a small footprint for a JD & oscar to leave peacefully in. I personally would do an oscar & say a severum, convict, firemouth etc over a JD. Ideally solo you want a 55gal for a JD & a 55/75 for an oscar full grown. So imho I'd say a 125gal would be more ideal.

JD grows like crazy till 6-7in then curbs drastically while the oscar will grow 1"+ a month till 1 yr.

if they get along it will be ok with proper mantainance

My JD and my Oscar get along fine in the 100 gallon. Like I said before, I really believe it's ok. Every fish is different. You cannot say something wont work until you try for yourself. If its working now then it should be okay. Just keep up on water changes. Give the JD a hiding spot. Hope it all continues to go well for you.

Hopefully it lasts. My jd was a freakin devil. He killed 2 Oscars. One of which was an inch longer than he was. I've also had a large male convict kill an Oscar the same size as he was. It all depend son the temperament of the fish.

The trick with the dempsey and an Oscar is to get the Oscar first and let it grow and establish territory. Then introduce the more aggressive JD. IMO I believe this helps significantly with the aggression issue. I've had none. But my Oscar was 5" or more before I put in a 2"JD. And yes, the temperament of each fish in the same species can be vastly different. That has a lot to do with it.

Yes it will work, I've done it. Like the other posters have said you need to have a good filtration system and keep up on your tank maintenance. The most important thing is make sure the two candidates get along or it will be a recipe for disaster no matter how well the tank is maintained. Good luck and keep us posted as to how it is working out for you.
