Dazz,
Very nice looking animal, and yes some cool pics, but I think your little monitor would be much much happier, and feel more secure if he had something to climb on, and into.
Corkbark tubes and flats work very well or even some backyard branches.
After all, varanus gilleni, is very much a tree climbing specie of monitor lizard. Good luck

Hey Ed,
I've had her for quite a few years now and she's quite happy in her enclosure, I originally had her in a larger enclosure with plenty of branches and logs and she hated it, I think it was a little overwhelming and she's also not a very good climber despite being a mostly terrestrial species, you'd find if you read articles on this species they often prefer a terrestrial mode of life in captivity.

I guess with no predators in captivity these little monitors don't need to retreat to trees.

Cheers and thanks for the comments everyone-

I would think life can become pretty boring living in a box. Thats why I always try to provide as many options and choices, (things for the monitor to do) inside the encloser as I can.
This includes, below ground, on the ground, and above ground, no matter what the specie of monitor is classified as, tree or ground dweller, it doesnt matter,
most of the bases are covered.

I hear that and agree to some extent, I also believe in keeping enclosures simple to allow for ease of cleaning and removal of faeces.
She has plenty to do though and loves running around, clambering over rocks and digging in the sand etc and is in great shape an health.

There needs to be a balance between a natural looking enclosure and simplicity. Too much clutter and you'll be giving crickets/roaches etc a place to hide and it can also be a little overwhelming and make it hard for your reptile to catch their prey.

Just my 2 c. been keeping reptiles since 2003
