Either way, a platypus would be a freakin sick ass pet! I have relatives in Australia so maybe I should convince them to try and keep one then I can pretend that I have one and live vicariously through them

It's probably illegal there too 8(

The males carry channeled spurs that are used during breeding only. The venom is used to sedate females during breeding. Humans are in danger o being 'stung' from handling the males.

^ dark... lol

Not really that "odd" but red pandas are probably the cutest "odd" animal in the world. Its like a raccoon got a makeover haha

A kinkajou might be a nice alternative, and probably easier to acquire.

I think Vicious Fish either has or had one.

Thank you to all who have spurred this thread on. Now I want a damned platypus..... Wife's going to be be confused when she sees that on my xmas wish list.

I saw a show once where a guy in Austrailia had picked up a male platypus. He had been seeing around the river on his farm for a few days. And he picked it up to get better look at it and didn't know what it was. As soon as he picked it up it spurred him and his muscles immediately began to lock up he ended up being taken to the er and was hospitalized for several days . It was a very painful experience for him. Before I saw this show I knew the males had the spurs but I had no idea it was that bad when they spurred you.
