So I am getting a 75-90 gallon tank as soon as I can find one for a decent price. I have media to seed it with, so I can get it up and running almost immediately. This is what I am thinking of putting in there and I want to see what you guys think.

Stock will be a heckelii threadfin acara, an electric blue acara and a notatus severum. I have 7 F1s growing out now that I intend to get a pair out of and give the pair their own 75-90, so if I have to pass on the notatus in the display, I can.

I was thinking of Congo tetras for dithers, but I am wondering if their long fins are going to be an issue. Thoughts?

Not sure on the heckellii, I like keeping them in groups and that wouldn't work in that sized tank. A school of cories would look good.

acaras and severums are both peaceful in my experience and have never nipped any fins.

Heckelii in a group? I have heard their conspecifics is incredibly high, especially when breeding.

So you think the heckelii, acara and severum will work with tetras and a small school of cories?

I have 4 heckellii in my 125, one is 6" and about 2.5 years old while the other three are 4" and abbout a 1 year old. When I had the older one as a single she(guessing) hung out in the middle of the tank seemingly more interested in what was going on in my living room but now shee is a lot more active. Since your tank is smaller and they are known for conspecific aggression I wouldn't recommend a group for you and they may do fine alone but personally I'm enjoying mine more now that I have a group. Everything else in your plan sounds good.

Sweet. Okay. Well I will proceed as planned then.

You have me thinking though. I might have to try a group of heckelii if (probably more like when) I get another 6' tank.

I have a 75 with a 3 inch electric blue acara, a 4 inch oscar and 2 tiger barbs. I dont think you will have any issues with that setup. Not sure about the heckelii. My electric blue acara used to nip at the Oscar but now the Oscar runs the tank. Overall the acara is peaceful and should be fine with a severum
