Thanks guys! It's only about 3" so is this too young to tell if its male or female and are they pretty easy to breed?

Not in my experience hard to Sex and usually kills the mate and needs at minimum a 125 to even try and breed them or keep one for that matter

They are illegal in VA I believe. Not sure about CA.

Also illegal here in Florida, although I believe there are thousands of them in S. Florida canals, or some other striped Tilapia.

Damn! They're that aggressive? I guess I'll grow it out in my 150 and try to trade it for a breeding pair of convicts.

Def a butti. I have one in w a jewel and two Raphael cats. Def aggressive. Killed some other mates. And pounds the glass trying to get at the fish in the tank next to his. Very hardy and easy to care for. I wouldn't trade it for two cons. Hell I wouldn't trade it for twenty cons! I don't think you can sex them without venting. And I've never tried to breed them. They are great fish. Keep it.

I am definitely turned on by the aggressiveness that you guys are saying about it, but the main reason I got it was to breed it to produce feeders for my payara's. Maybe one day I will dedicate a tank to aggressive cichlids but as of right now, I'm gonna stick with payara's and bichirs. And my aba aba knife.
