I am in day 3 of discus ownership and very happy . I purchased 2 because that was all i could get i have ordered 4 more to make the recommended number of 6 , i should have them on wednesday hope they stay happy and healthy until then .
the male is a red melon and the female is a solid yellow with light blue fins. they have eaten blood worm , tetra color granules and algae wafers. they seem to be the boss of the small angels which is good.
Sorry about photo quality ill get some better ones when they have settled in .

I was shown a method for sexing sub adult discus by comparing the thickness of the first 3 spines on the dorsal fin

Hi,

I would say discus this size need to be eating beef heart also and at east 4-5 times a day with as many water changes as you can possible do so they grow nice, big and healthy!

Thanks Carl i have bought discus dinner that has beef heart in it i am changing the water every 3-5 days about 30% on a 160 gal tank and work allowing they were getting fed 3 times a day i will start feeding them more often .

I wouldn't rely on that method. Because they are so line bred, traits that might have been almost exclusively male or female can become common in both genders. Venting discus is the only truly reliable way to sex these fish.
