I grew my red Oscar (in my avatar) from a 2" baby into a 13" brute in 2 years in a 75GL with 2 fluval 405 canister filters. He was always kept alone with 80-90% water changes 1 a week and a good pellet diet with peas, fruit & night-crawlers mixed in as treats. They say 55 is Min I disagree I believe 75 is min and a 90 is better again because its the same foot print as a 75 (48"x 18"). You can't over filter a big Oscar tank they are very messy fish.
1 Oscar in a 75, a aqua clear 110 (1x) should be good, I ran that exact setup for around 8 months.
