Quarantine Tank Suggestions

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That was my thought as well. I have a 300 gallon tank, to treat the entire tank is expensive when maybe one fish may need it.

Do you keep any small fish in there to keep the cycle going, or do you just put in the sponge as needed?

My hospital iso just sits half full with a cheapo cascade internal filter. If I need to use it, I just add some mature bio to the filter and drop in a sponge from one of my sumps.

Thanks for the recommendations. One other thing, do you always put new fish in the Q tank first or only if something doesn't seem quite right about them? I've also heard about quick "dips" in a bucket to quickly rid of any potential issues. Not too much of a shock?

Quarantine new fish period...................unless you like treating a large tank and putting your stock at risk

It always surprises me how many fish keepers just won't quarantine and then get irked when they have a break-out of something.

What if anything are members adding to their new fish at tanks, aside from increased temps and salt if tolerated?

Only need to add salt and increase temp if fish is definitely sick, no need to do this for the quarantining of new fish.

I personally prefer to quarantine for at least 4 weeks and add Prazi pro as an extra added safety measure.

Sometimes it's lack of room or resources, but sometimes it's just a lack of experience or knowledge. I hear what your saying though. I am learning so much here and trying to put it to use to improve the quality of my fish tank experience. Setting up a quarantine tank today!

Oh I definitely get it, that many time its the lack of resource and such, but I was referring to keepers who do it out of laziness or "I've never qt any fish in all the years I've been doing this, and never had a single problem"........its Russian roulette. To each their own
