I agree with what tom says but I still contend the award brought up by sumo "icon" and me "pinnacle" are given out for dominating an era. How else can you give awards out to people on their 20s?
If we're honest, if you watch I love the 2000s in 20 years on Vh1, rihanna and a bulk of these artists will dominate the show. Love em or hate them.
IMO music “Achievement” awards can be given out for reaching certain mile stones or “Peoples Choice” awards can be given out for current popularity without using the words Icon or pinnacle. I just don’t like seeing the significance diminished for marketing purposes or used for monetary gains without regard.
I do agree if in 20 years you were to watch “I Love the 2000’s” she will be there. If I watch “I love the 80’s” Flock of Seagulls is there or the 70” The Doobie Brothers are there or the 60’s Simon & Garfunkel, even the 50’s the Dupree’s are there…………………..while all were very popular during their day which one of those are considered true icons? I’m just saying by virtue of being popular during a certain decade doesn’t necessary mean anything. With todays technology I don’t even think the numbers can even be compared equitably.
