Black convicts with African

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I've kept them together. The only problem I had was when the convicts started to bred. They defend their fry for as long as the could, but eventually my Africans were nose diving into their nest & ended up killing my male convict.
So it won't be a problems as long as you keep only one sex of convicts in your set-up.

I just don't think it's ever a really good idea to mix old world and new world cichlid species if you wanna risk it that's up to you. I was just giving you my opinion.

They will live together but its not ideal for them , as mentioned they will set up territory, they do require different foods and also a different ph level to live happily imo

The pH level is now invalid these days since the Africans can live happily in same pH levels of Americans and both are actually omnivores. I've seen this combo works just fine in long aquariums.

I just haven't ever seen it work out they always end up killing each other eventually in every case I have seen of mixing old and new worlds.

Thanks for all the input. I'm gonna keep them together until like 3" then put the convicts back in the 55g. Next got to figure what to put in 55g. Have Terra's now just to keep the tank cycled.

Every case you actually seen, always end up killing each other? Or just a guess? Just asking. Because there are few combos that works just fine!
