Thoughts on Hardscape

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
What's funny is that, most super serious planted tanks have wayyyyyyy expensive hardscapes in them. Like, hundreds of dollars expensive, looking for specific types of stones and going through all sorts of weird hoops just to get them.

Personally, I want to see more tanks that are hardscaped the way planted tank people hardscape...just without the plants. You can still totally aquascape without plants, and I haven't seen enough of that.

Me too. Most of my fish decimate live plants, so it's all wood and rock. Not that any of my hardscapes are that great but the fish seem to appreciate it.

And I enjoy seeing it that way. Lee Nutall is a great example of no plants but ridiculous hardscapes. Guy is my biggest inspiration right now

Gotta love Lee Nuttall's tanks, probably the best example of bringing the public aquarium look into the livingroom. I lucked out when I redid my planted tank, I moved hardier plants to my tank with sd, sevs and melanurus basically because I had nothing else to do with them and 7 months later they're still thriving. I have to place rocks around the bases of the plants to keep them rooted but the the contrast in colors between hardscape and plants really makes the tank pop.

Lee is the damn Takashi Amano of ihardscaped cichlid tanks. His stuff looks so simple and easy to do until you actually try to imitate it.

That is the curse of driftwood, if you find a piece you love you better buy or be cursed with years of chasing the dragon.
