Picked up a 1 1/2 foot RTC/Shovel Nose hybrid three days ago.
Last owner says he was eating some tilapia and hotdogs.
He was in a tank with a full blooded RTC and a full blooded SN.
So I was told he was not very aggressive about eating. He would mainly eat what the others didn't after they finished.

Ive had him like I said for 3 days. But have not seen him eat yet.

His new tank mates are 2 stingrays, 3 p-bass, large indo Dat, 4 Clown Loaches and a Florida Gar.

So what are you guys feeding your cats?
I was also told that this cat was not a big tilapia eater but would eat it from time to time.
That he would go days with eating very little, then stuff himself one day and go back to not eating much for a few days.
Do yours eat the same way?

Everything you say appears within the norm. As with any fish, it is not uncommon to take 1 and even 2 weeks to shake the stress off, get adjusted, hungry enough, and start eating.

I'd not give any fish hotdogs or any flesh of non-aquatic origin, not as a staple, not as a "treat".

+1 with TBTB especially with the hotdogs they are very bad for them.

My TSN was a very shy eater, he would only eat small whole fish or prawns/shrimp once or twice a week and it was always like this even from 4" so I wouldn't worry as long as your water perimeters are in check

Try feeding at night with lights off.
You'd be surprised how different your fish are at night.

Looks a stunner. Like ure motoro to. Had a normal shovelnose I would worry that ure clown loaches could be on the menu..there greedy cats once they settle.

ya, that is the smallest loach in the tank. He is about 6" plus. The rest are three times his size. He is really the only one I worry about. But so far, so good.

We do. I feed mainly at night after lights are out. I also do a small feeding in the morning 3 times a week. Just under half what I feed at night daily. He maybe eating but I watch the tank when feeding. I feed some, see how much is ate, feed a little more, wait till that's gone and feed again. Total is around 2 1/2 tilapia fillets a day average. But have never seen him eat. Any pieces that are not ate are usually gone by morning since we got him, so he might be eating those but just have never seen him eat personally.
