test driving a car without intention of buying it in the near future

so this has been on my mind a lot lately. i want to go test drive the new gmc sierra but i have no intention on buying it right not. it would be about a years time from now before id be able to. would it be wrong to do go test drive it and look at even though i do plan on hgetting one within a years time? just want some opinions on this
 
I can not tell you the number of times I have either done that myself,been with friends or family that have done that. Just test drive the thing.

Just be aware you could be wasting a salesman's time that he could be using to close a deal with someone who is actually buying. That could potentially be taking money from the salesman.

i would go either early in the morning on a weekday or a little bit before they close. i asked one dealership wen would be the least buisiest time and was upfront that i had no intention on buying in the near future and sadly no email back
 
I know this isn't what you are asking but I have to tell you. I bought a GMC Sonoma and basically put my mechanics kids through college. I was thankfull when a teen ran a red light and totaled my truck. I will never by another GMC product.

On to your question if you go when it is slow the salesman maybe thankful for something to do. I was a car salesman for 2 months, I quit because I realized I was to honest to work there, but anyways mid day is very boring.

Here's the deal. Do you really want a car salesman calling you a couple times a day till you either buy the truck or change your number?
 
Yes go test drive. How else are you supposed to tell whether or not you even want the vehicle. You must have some interest in buying even if it is not right now,
 
i wont mind them calling me maybe the longer it is the better the deal ill get lol. i really like everything about it i just wanna see how it rides. ive done tons of reading about it and would love to experience it in person
 
Hello; A test drive will allow you to know a bit more about the vehicle. I have on a few occasions test driven a vehicle and gone back over a period of many months untill it was either sold or they took a lower price. I bought my current car that way. It was half way thru the model year when I first drove it. I offered a low price and the dealer refused. They did call once and I offered the same again and again they refused. Six months later they still had the car and the new model year cars were on the lot. They took the offer. Of course it would not have worked if it had been sold in the meantime. In this case the model was one that I liked but was not popular.
