test driving a car without intention of buying it in the near future

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
This was the mindset on dating before I met my wife.

"I wanna get married at one point, just not now so for now I gotta test drive different models to see what I like."

Just be aware you could be wasting a salesman's time that he could be using to close a deal with someone who is actually buying. That could potentially be taking money from the salesman.

This is 100% true. People never think about how this stuff affects others. Every minute the salesman spends with a person that has no intention of buying the vehicle, he loses the time to spend with someone interested in actually buying a car. I work at a Toyota dealership as a technician, and I see this all the time. If you just want to drive one, rent it for the day. Most dealerships rent most of the models they sell. This way the dealership is compensated for their time and effort. Also every time the car is driven the miles add up. Most people won't buy a car with over 100 miles unless it is listed as a "demo" at a discounted price so this causes the dealership in turn to lose money on the car if it sits on the lit for over 180 days...I think you should have to have your credit ran and pre-qualify before they let you test drive to avoid this, but that is typically only the case in high end cars...

If I go to the dealership I'm going to be upfront about it and if they say no well then I'll go somewheres else and I was unaware that they rent vehicles out. I'll look more into that

My dealership rents everything from a base model 14 corolla to an 80k+ landcruiser. With the priced accordingly of coarse

i went there today talked to the guy that ive been emailing at gmc he gave me to one of his salesman and we went for a drive it was unbelievably simple. the 2014 sierras are amazing.

Glad you drove the Sierra as that may be my next truck and appreciate your review. On a side note I just bought a Cadillac CTS Coupe and never even test drove one. Sometimes you just know that is the car for you. I'm happy to report the car is amazing and I couldn't be happier. Good luck with your future purchase.

I have gone with my dad to test drive really expensive sports cars that we cannot buy either way just for fun, I know a lot of people who have done that too. It's really not a hard decision just go there and ask to drive the truck.

This is what is wrong with america. Everyone does it so that makes it OK. Op from what I can tell you are seriously interested in the truck. At that point the test drive is considered marketing. Sales adds have theoretically done their job and got you inside, now they are counting on the truck to sell itself. The new Tundra's are great too and i recommend driving one before you purchase a new truck.

However, driving a car just to drive it at the expense of the dealership makes you one step above pond scum in my book. So anyone that condones useless joyrides is useless in my book...

Yeah I understand. I appreciate your advice but I'm one those people and are biased against other brands I'd ever only go with either the silverado or sierra. The only reason of go to gmc is because their made by the same people lol I'm a huge Chevy fan. I may test drive it but I doubt it.
