For all of my one year of reading this post I have never seen that. Well, I'll shut up and sit down now.
It's rare for SA fish to cross outside of their genus, but there are certain species that will definitely cross within their genus. For instance, all species of discus (Symphysodon) will interbreed, as will severums (Heros). There are many examples of acara-types doing this.
I know that inter genus cross breeding was possible, I never realized that Blue Acaras and GT were in the same genus.

Cross genus as well. Aequidens and Cichlasoma. exCichlasoma (e.g. festaes) and some Central Americans. There's a thread on here about Australoheros (chanchitos) and Crytoheros (Amatitlania / convicts)...I'm sure others as well.

Like species, Genuses are man-made groupings. And many cichlids are remarkably closely related!
