Pics of my Burmese Clouded Archer

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I just ordered 3 of these little guys yesterday. I have to wait till next week before they will be shipped. I'm pumped! Been waiting several years to find them at a reasonable price.
Since the hang out at the surface will they be bothered by my powerhead or do they like swimming in a current? Want to make sure my set up is ready for them.

when the current is stronger they face into it, swimming toward it. not overly bothered, but they're not built for current hitting them sideways.
Being surface feeders, I don't feed with much top current. mine are still in qt and that gets too wasteful, even though I have some other fish in there who eat what falls.
Seems like mine appreciate water shooting nearly straight downward in places, & current at lower parts of the tank &/or along a side so they have a choice.
They don't like 1mm pellets, even though their mouths are large. They love.5 mm NLS GROW on the surface. I drop in little pinches at a time, to be eaten before sinking. FD bloodworms and blackworms are a fave too. Since they inhale nls Grow, I stopped feeding floating carnivore. they are very greedy eaters and mine are visibly growing.
These are smart little fish too. they were spitting food down off the tank walls (I pressed it there). then one day the Inca Stone Fish started jumping up and grabbing it off above the surface. the archers watched them for several minutes and then started imitating them, to get the food. I was surprised at their quickness, and now they do that all the time
:-/
I want to remove the Incas asap.

I noticed mine will jump for a cricket if it can reach. I think that has to do with competition. The archer that shoots the food down isnt always guaranteed to eat it. Jumping assures the catch, ya know? I definitely agree with not too much top current. I dont think Ive ever seen my archer eat anything that wasnt on the surface.

What other fish are you keeping yours with? Mine are going into my 55gal loach tank for a while until they're big enough for the 125

Mine is with a few colombian tetras and a smaller common pleco. Beware of any loaches that can fit or even almost fit into your archers' mouth.... Ive lost two colombians so far haha.
