And from what I read you want to fill a good 60% of space, more like $300+

This may be hard to explain but the way I plan to "boil" the k-1. The chamber will be completely blocked off with water flow through dual 1 1/2" inlets with pvc risers then exit through the same on the opposite side. If I knew how to draw on my iPad I would, lol, but in sense the water will flow into the chamber, roll the media then exit into the trickle cha,ber

To the op ya if you have a setup like you are explaining you might as well take advantage of some media in that area. Anything will work just pick what you have or what you like best if you don't already have something. The media I posted is 28.00 per cubic foot and 5 cubic feet shipped was 191.00 it's 28.316 liters per cubic foot. Not sure how much k1 shipping is but I found this media to be a good deal. Just giving out information to everyone as an option.
I am running 2 cubic feet of media in my 125 gallon sump with 4 32inch filter socks over 1000 gallons of water and a ton of fish the worse type big ones.

Plus it's just something different I guess, don't see a double chamber bio sump.

I'd think the K1 would be different enough for you, but a double chamber sump isn't very unusual, mine's one.
since the K1 should take care of a lot of the ammonia and nitrites, why not work on the nitrates in the second chamber? a thick layer of poret receiving de-oxygenated water would work well towards that end.
