Hi everyone, looking to get my first peacock bass and had a couple questions. Probably going to get 4 maybe 5 of them and was wondering about kelberi vs azul.

What are the differences between them as far as general personality, aggression differences, things like that. I realize the azul get larger when full grown than kelberi do.

Also for that many, would it be good to just have 4 or 5 of the one type or could a person do 2 of each or 3 of one and 2 of the other?

Thanks!;)

Azuls are generally on the more aggressive side than Kels but it depends on the fish. My azul is pretty chill and my Kel was pretty aggressive. You never want to keep just 2 of any bass so the more the better to spread aggression. They are both amongst the slowest growing imo and there's no reason why you can't mix the 2. 5 is a good number. What size tank will they be in?

Thanks for the info, just to clarify though by saying you never want to keep just 2 of any bass does that mean if I want both azul and kelberi I have to have 5 of each or just never only 2 total so I could do 3 kelberi and 2 azul?

They will be starting out in my 150 gallon then going to build a bigger one for them later.

Like Strollo said 3+, groups of 5+ seem to do very well. The larger the group the easier to pellet train because the competition for food, plus they are just more fun in big groups. Like he said azuls and kels will go good. You will need a large tank with 5.
