Is there ANY legal snakeheads in the U.S.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
AND...people tend not to be able to keep their mouths shut and keep talking about them like the thread starter has shown already,

Its not like anyone can find my friends friend just by me talking about snakeheads on a fish forum

You'd be very surprised at what the government can do when they're trying to find someone. They have the authority to contact whoever runs this forum and find your info and linking it all the way to you and exactly where you live. It's best not to mention any illegal activity to anyone whether you're involved or not.

I did a research paper on this a couple semesters ago and I found that there were actually quite a few states that had snakeheads in their lakes and rivers. There was even a population somewhere in Canada. I'll try to find the article(s). I just gotta try and remember what I actually typed in to find it.

There is no breeding snakehead population in Canada and I believe that the article you are talking about is a lone northern snakehead in a small manmade pond in a park of Burnaby, BC. I checked on NAS website and it appeared that there's only seven states that has a breeding populations of northern snakeheads and Florida has only one breeding population of Bullseye snakehead.

Ya, the government can do anything.
But in reality, if they really went through all the trouble of doing all this just to find ONE guy who responsibly owns a fish instead of something more productive like focusing on their endless problems (which i will not mention because i do not want to go TO off topic...) then i think i am moving to another country where at least i can KEEP snakeheads. Lol im just kidding, love my country but for real they will not go through the trouble. And i do not even know the guy. I did not confirm he even has a fish. I said "supposedly". My friend told me but he is goofy and could have just been lying... Anyways i guess this thread is done my question was answered so mods you guys can close it if you wish, thank you.

There was recently a case concerning a responsible fishkeeper in Clay, NY fighting to keep his 10 year old snakehead "Rocky". The courts ordered F&W to take the fish and euthanize it. This one single keeper was not bypassed by the gov't in lieu of bigger crimes. So, don't count on being free and clear if trying to possess an illegal species. Agents in fear of losing their job will latch onto any lifeline, ...including previously reported possession allegations.

Who could forget the campaign to save Rocky?
