South american cichlid with plecos?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I personally have jacks, firemouths, convicts, Green terrors, flower horns, Texas, blood parrots, and severums with plecos in my tanks. No issues at all

While not plecos, I tried cories in a vieja community & they got beat up pretty quickly. I don't think argentea or other viejas would outright kill a pleco, but they would probably harass them to the point where they stay hidden the majority of the time.

+1 to this plus if you do go with a Cichlid your most likely going to see that your plecos fins may get torn up and that they are picked on plus the Cichlid will definitely out compete them for food and that could be a big factor depending on the size of the plecos

My L240 is in a 110g with 2 Hypselacara Temporalis, 2 Bujurquina, 2 Australoheros Oblongum and 5 Red Head Tapajos. None of them bother the L240, even when he's hopping around the tank. He spends most of his time inside a big piece of driftwood. If I'm remembering correctly the L240 is endemic to the same area of SA as most of my cichlids.

My Centrals seem to ignore my L15 but tore up my salt and pepper cories real fast. If you want a gentle giant try a Herichthys pearsei. Dont bother with argentea's they turn into pyschos when older.

My Argentea and Pearsei generally ignore my loricariids. I did lose a large Midas from what appeared to be an attack for our large common. It's often not what the cichlids will tolerate, but what certain plecos will.

We had to move our common because he was riding our big Argentea sucking slime coat.

Okay that works for me. Just want something that will catch peoples eye when they walk in the room because the plecos hide most of the time unless feeding so people dont really see them! Haha
