Woke up this morning and found this little dude up against the intake of the filter.

All of the others in the tank are doing just fine. Was heading to work so couldn't test water.

Partially looks a bit stuffed, and there's a weird lump in the belly. Everything was fine last night, but this morning sucks bad!

Sorry for your loss! :( Same thing happend to one of my Orinos as well. Where are these guy from?

Got them from Snook21, aquabid.

I think around the same time you got your orinos.

They are around 4-5".

Just wish I had a heads up on this guy being ill.
 
Im not bashing John or nothing here I just want to clear that up first lol. Excellent guy and excellent service. But yeah I remember you ordering these now. Same thing happend to one of mine as well as the Kelberi I ordered also. I see yours arent growing very fast either.
 
Orinos take FOREVERRRRRRRRRRRRR to grow!

That sucks about your lil' guy, tough! Did you refrigerate him? Will it be possible to do a necropsy? His passing could be a warning to you about your other guys, since Cichla can take a lot before keeling over. Can you tell us more about his diet? How the other tankmates interacted with him, etc.?

Yeah not bashing John at all, these guys will be stunners and came in super healthy too. I'm thinking it was neglect on my part, because I cant think of anything that was wrong with them.

This guy was one of the biggest in the tank, so I doubt it was fighting. There's a lot of dithers also, but 6 other orinos which is always interesting.

Just not sure what could've taken him out.

Temp is always at 86 degrees, but will double check when I get home tonight. Might've been a internal parasite, but didn't show any signs of being ill.

I hope he's the only casualty!
 
I had two deaths but one was totally my fault ha. I didnt cover my overflow :swear:

I wasn't able to refrigerate him. I was on my way to work, and didn't even think about keeping him on ice. My wife was walking me out the door, and she would've had confirmation of me losing my mind if I'd have kept him in the freezer.

I don't want to dose my tank to kill any internal parasites, however if anymore end up dead I'll be dozing for sure.

They eat hikari food sticks and massivore. Sometimes they get freezedried krill, or frozen krill...Which oddly enough they don't eat as readily as the pellets. They only get fed once a day because the 125g is in a busy traffic area of the house, and my wife hates the smell of hikari pellets.
 
Been brooding on this all day, and I think it might've been the catfish I tried adding to the tank a few weeks ago.

I needed help with the cleaning crew, so I picked up a eclipse catfish from PetSmart..........:wall:

Should've dosed the fish before adding it to the community...should've never bought something from a PetSmart.
