I have 1-1.5'' fry at 4 months old.Closeup2.jpg
Originally fed frozen baby brine shrimp and eventually moved to NLS Small Fish Formula. I've had them in three Marina 'hang-on' breeding boxes attached to my 90 gal. All3cropped.png
It's worked out well because they're hooked to a well-established tank and I can easily remove the waste and uneaten food. Closeup1.jpg

My male stopped eating and died about 2 1/2 months after breeding. He was 2 1/2 years old, 7 1/2 inches. Has anyone experienced this? All parameters were good, other fish are great,... duno?2014-01-03 21.28.57.png

Not very many people sharing their experiences breeding these, so I figured I'd start:)

Who else has bred these eartheaters and can share experiences?

Sorry for your loss. Do you have another male that your female can pair up with? Ive bred altifrons but have never had Pellegrini.Fish look good

Sorry for your loss as well. I have been looking for Geophagus Pelligrini every day lol on different site's. They are very rare in the mid west. Please put some of your fry on Aquabid:D

Thanks guys. Unfortunately he was my only male Pellegrini.
Thomas, I'll be looking into shipping when they're 2-3'' if I can't find buyers to p/u locally.

I'm cycling a 55 gal so I can move the fry out of the breeding boxes soon and continue to grow them out.

Thanks Fish:) You probably wont have any issues at all locally, right now too cold in Ohio. Will Pellegrini coexist with Red head tapajos, or Red humps?

I had my Pellegrini pair with a pair of redcaps all along, worked out pretty well,...both pairs have bred for me

I think you'd be surprised. Seems almost everyone on the west coast that wants pellegrini already have em.
Shipping east is looking like the only way I'll make my $ back.

After 4 months of feeding and cleaning out their crap 8+ times per day, I've grown attached to these little things. Don't know how I'll feel getting rid of them...
