Help id on 2 petsmart 'red texas'/flowerhorn

Yellow is very common and are usually culled because not alot of people want them.

Interesting. Didn't know that. Think the yellow is pretty cool on it.

What kind of traits to look for to tell sex?

The yellow is not good for "red texas" but they are all pretty cool really. Females may have a dark spot in the middle of the dorsal, little bit wider in the bottom area, theres lots of ways to sex but venting is best just like standard pure cichlids. Drop in a mature known male and see how he reacts to it works too lol.

Dropped a known 4" male flowerhorn and the red Texas beat the crap out of him. Flowerhorn is out of tank and ok now. Thinking male now.

Very true. Going to see what happens with other female in tank and try venting soon.

I have a female rt and one male goldenbased fh and they fight which results in the rt losing but then they stop. They always fight the first day i put them in a new tank haha

Try putting the yellow rt in a background of red and red gravel and see if it will blend it with its surroundings
