I heard about the 6.0, new and old...

Being a diesel mechanic I strongly suggest not buying a ford diesel from 04 and newer. The 6.0 is garbage the 6.4 is worse and the 6.4 isnt all that. If you got deep pockets and can afford to bullet proof a 6.0 then its a good engine. But if you can only afford to keep it running by routine maintence dont bother. This is coming from a ford guy himself. Cummins is the way to go though

I'm aiming for a 1999-2003 with a 7.3L diesel...must be a crew cab, haven't decided on 6 speed manual or the auto gearbox. Thoughts?

I would consider the cummins, but I was looking at the superduty for the cabin room.

Yep there was guys buying brand new fords and dealer was backed up six weeks trying to keep up with warranties but dealer kept selling them but got nothing bad to say about 7.3 I pulled a 26' trailer loaded up hill at 150 kmh didn't miss a beat

I'd hate to own a new 6.0L and NOT have warranty...

Our 7.3 is weaksauce but our 6.0 is total garbage even though it has a good bit more power...work trucks

weaksauce?

The only weakness of a 7.3 was the rods.
They can only support 400 HP.
If you want to bulletproof that motor, you'd need some billet rods.
I blew mine up twice.
No more diesels for me.

Not really looking to hotrod around town or anything...just wanted some pulling power with good interior cabin space

That's what I told myself when I bought the truck to.
7.3 is still the best one out there.
But the 6.8 is really good to with about the same mileage and without the expensive of being a diesel.
I guess it all depends if your hauling something really big for a long distance.
