They do like their murkier used water which isn't too fresh on the eyes, But I stick to about a 25% water change every 2 weeks and mine is fine, Where as my piranha likes a good 40% water change every 2 weeks :) Nice looking Channa Its amazing how many people don't know just how big they can get, I just got a 180 gal - 850 liter tank for my baby snake head, :P Bit crazy but it will last a little until he's a bigger boy :P "Sorry for the hijack"

Toothless ill just say the 180 will last about 2-3 years depending on how much and how often u feed .as for the fading stripes it could very well be a mood thing to mine change from light to dark and some markings totaly disappear from time to time

My Diplo change colour a lot but nothing drastic. Darken and go light like other said depending on water. And if you want to big water changes do 25-30% twice a week or every 4 days thats what I have been doing for my Aro to help keep him healthy and try to heal his tethered fins. :)

Channas ans large water changes do not mix well.

Ahhh good thing for your fishes! My 4ftx2ft tank is coming in the next 2 weeks!

Ohh I see... oh well ive not been changing the water as frequent now. Im changing at a rate of 25% every two weeks. Its okay right? Coz my fish seems to be developing well in these waters

Also depends how much your feeding them which will decide how much waste the fish produce. Big tank with a small fish is not going to dirty up the water as big fish small tank....

I only clean 1 of my filters and even then it's not often. 1 has not been done in about 6 months, the fx6 was just done and even then it wasn't bad.

Just stick to a good routine that works for you. I do 30% per week always have done. Always a Monday as well for some reason.

What it the filtration of the tank?
I believe the "murky water" you mentioned could be attributed to insufficent filtration.
