House Fire vs. Fish Tanks!

In the case of a house fire, i am curious what will happen to fish in a GIANT glass tank? As in, if there was a VERY SMALL house fire in my basement and it was just enough to melt the glass on lets say, my 210 gallon, wouldn't there be enough water spewing out to put the fire out and possibly save the fish? Like I said, a SMALL fire... And what about a 10,000 gallon tank? In fact, maybe we can start convincing our wives/girlfriends for a 10,000 gallon and use, "it could put out fires" as an excuse! :) but seriously, couldn't a large amount of water spewing out stop a fire? I have been wondering this a lot lately...

one would also think that with a large ship sailing the seas, fire would not be a problem because there is no shortage of water, however fire remains to be one of the biggest hazards to ships. lol

love the thought, i wish i could have a 10k gallon tank...
 
Yes we should. Acrylic will melt in a huge fire (if you read the thread about a members house catching on fire) glass however may be a different story. There are three possibilities 1 the tank will melt 2 the tank will survive and act like a pot 3 the tank will explode. Another scenario would be is if the tank had a chiller on it. How effective would a chiller be in this situation?

I read that thread. So sad... But lets say that the glass or acrylic melts and the fish all die from temperature... Wouldn't the water still quench the flames, given it is a large tank and small fire?

Here's a true story. I came home once to find it full of smoke. Turns out there was enough water splashing out from a tank to where it shorted a plug(magnum 350 plugged to a cord), caught the carpet on fire. However due to enough water being splashed out and wetting the carpet, the fire fizzled itself out. It only burned about 8 square inches.

I was so lucky
