So this fish is at a local fish store and they have had it over a month. It came in as a doner fish from a customer and is between 6.5 and 7 inches in length. Every time i have been there it is this color. It has been housed with other centrals around this size to being by itself to having little 1.5 to 2 inch centrals and they say at the most a bit darker at time but about the same as it looks here.

Looks pale, stressed and washed out. I would think that you could bring it back to good health/color with a quality diet, clean water, low stress, and regular wc's (assuming there's nothing wrong with it).

I was thinking the same things at first but it has been this way in a 45-55 gallon even by itself with no other fish as stressors. The tank water looks good but maybe there are parameters off. I will be visiting it tomorrow and if it looks the same still ask them to do a test on the water and see where it sits. I am not looking for normal jacks if i get them and seen some pics of a blue gene gold jack that looked a little like this one. It prob is just stressed but with all the inbreeding that is being done to try and produce new colors you never really know thats why i asked for thoughts on it.

Thanks for your answer.

So as we all suspected but i hoped not it was a normal in a stressed condition. Had them bag it and then let set on the counter while i shopped more. 10-15 min later almost normal color markings so back into the tank it went. I have a gold blue gene coming and a sad but viable electric blue female now. Sad in that the bottom half of her tail is gone but just fin not flesh some time ago as completely healed. One of the electric blues that matured to look stuck between an electric blue and a blue gene.

looking pretty young, hard to say much tell they color up some more. cute little guy.
