Injured oscar

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Update went to check on him this morning and he passed. Really gonna miss him going to go get an oscar to grow out in a 20 before putting in 210 I believe the jag only went after him because he was near the same size at 6 inches so if I have a smaller one he shouldn't have a problem I hope

Sorry to hear that... I would get an Oscar that's bigger than your Jag if u plan on keeping them together at some point, not smaller. Otherwise the same thing will more than likely happen again, only this time your Jag will just eat the Oscar instead of beating him to death.

Male jag I take it, does not matter how big the Oscar is, he well just rip its face off,. and there is no such thing as growing out an Oscar in a 20g tank. That is just bad fish keeping. flame me if you want, and Oscar says hello.

first off folks that want to put a jag in with an Oscar should take heed. ..........

^ THIS.

Sorry, but what "you think" is just wrong, OP.
Reasoning that a smaller oscar will be ok is absurd, because a live 2" oscar is a growing oscar and it will not stay small.
either choose which aggression level of fish you want, OR get separate & adequate sized tanks for differing types.

Of course, you are free to go ahead & repeat the same mistake. but there will be no real psychoanalytically social reason behind the jag tearing up various oscars.
Fish behave like they're hard-wired to do, and any exceptions should not be expected. That's why we call them exceptions.

yes that is a Jag in the back ground you see, she (female) is old, here is my young female. she lives alone in her own 90g cept for the sail fin in ATM to clean things up, I put a another cichlid in? she tear it up.
