What is the best treatment for velvet/costia. I am not sure which it is, but I believe it's one or the other. It started with pale patches on my delhezi's body. It spread quickly, some crusty yellow stuff appeared, and he died within days. Now another fish is ill. Also has red streaks on the underside of head.
Here is a pic of early onset.
Salt and melafix have had no affect.

Looks just like the white patches my Ornate had last year. You can barely see them but around the edges there are tiny tiny worms. Called bichir worms. I'm 90% sure that's what this is. Near the center of the white patches you will see red blood between the scales, the patches will get larger and spread and the fish will die. You need to treat with Praziquantel, it will kill them. Wild caught bichirs almost always have these. I feel like I should have an honorary PHD with the amount of research I did to figure it out. Thanks to everyone on MFK and their sharing knowledge/experience/ideas I was able to save his life. I'll post the link to my thread with pictures of this disease and I think you'll agree they look nearly identical. Prazipro is a brand of treatment. Tetra parasite guard works too but anything with praziquantel. it spreads like wildfire among bichirs, they don't seem to effect other fish. I had peacock bass, aro, RTC and numerous other fish in there that weren't effected. only the bichirs.

Thank you!! It looks just like it. I'm going to the lfs after work. I hope it works. I have 4 polys left atm.
It's been so long since I've had a sick fish. I forgot how stressful it is to see them suffer.

I found PraziPro at my lfs. I treated the tank on 2/20. I also added some antibiotic 2/21 and again today. So far, so good. The Delhezi that was visibly sick is improving. Thank you for saving my guys Dieselhybrid.

This is great news! You are welcome Xray_Chic. We can thank this great forum, it helped save my fish. I'm glad it has helped to save yours too.

Good idea to add the Antibiotic too. I'm sure you did this but did you remove carbon/purigen from the filters too?

Good luck!
